Honoring our Local Athletes

THANK YOU BENNINGTON BANNER FOR HOSTING THE ALL STAR EVENT THIS PAST WEEK. Thanks to Bennington College, Bennington Subaru and SVMC for leading the way in Sponsorship.  Hoisington Realty sponsored a table that included Kim and Gary Warren, Nancy Woltman and Don Murphy, Suzy Yucht and Kathy Hoisington.  Joyce Scarey, another H.R. agent was at a family table to honor her granddaughter, Colleen Ahearn who won the award in Dance for Mount Anthony High School.

We were all inspired by the character and dedication of the high school recipients and their coaches. The stage was filled with young people who had accomplished incredible goals both in sports and academics and their beaming faces warmed all of us in the audience.  The special awards brought tears to our eyes.

The Guest Speaker, Nate Holland, X Games Gold Medal Winner and Olympian brought an important message on how to attain our goals and overcome adversity in life.  His words will long be remembered by both the audience and the award winners.  His message transcended sports and was meaningful to all of us on what it takes to live a life of purpose and character.

        Hypocrisy is a word used to describe a very ealtenmel and powerful human initiative. It is particularly applicable when one seeks a term to portray the words, no less the endeavors, of many (most?) professional politicians. One whose chosen vocation is more or less dependent upon a steady stream of financial support from others who, for one reason or another, possibly including the blessings of the bestowal of favors which may provide a competitive advantage to the contributor, and who is also critical of the form of the bribe, treads on very thin ice. The act of penetrating the guise of a contribution to an opponent these days is almost as widespread and exciting an exercise as the involvement in an election iteslf. We all know what the game is and what the rules are. The objective is to bend those rules just enough to avoid getting caught while simultaneously pointing the finger at the other guy who may not be as clever in the cover-up. The bottom line is to raise more money and still project the image of being a candidate for sainthood. And the rest of us get sucked into the debate about who is holier than thou and whether or not their motivations are either more base or more blessed than the adversary. Trying to put limits on political contributions is a form ofobfuscation. All political parties and individual practitioners regardless of their temporary feel-good platforms or fancy speeches seek the approbation and its concomitant backing of the wealthiest among us. Lets face those facts and accept the practice. It's not going to change and since many of us are only too happy to participate to some extent in the drill, let's move on and place our focus on more deserving objectives. Or are we all hypocrites?
